Eating fish can reduce risk of heart attack, studies say
By: Andre Picard (Globe and Mail, April 9th, 2002)
There is striking new evidence that regualary eating fish such as tuna and salmon can prevent heart attacks in the growing legions of people living with heart disease.
Two separate studies, to be published today, show that consuming fish and fish oils can cut the risk of arrhythmia and sudden heart attacks by more than half. (Arrhythmia is characterized by sudden changes in heartbeat, and it ca provoke heart attacks and stroke.)
And a third, unrelated research paper suggest that pregnant women and nursing mothers can prevent postpartum depression and improve the neurological development of their babies by increasing their fish consumption.
The common thread is omega-3 fatty acids, polyunsatyrated fat which is commonly found in fish. A general rule is that the darker the fish meat, the better it is for the heart. Tuna, salmon, sardines, swordfish and mackerel are examples of fish that are particulary rich in omega-3 fatty acids; they are also found in algae.
The Heart & Stoke Foundation of Canada recommends that people eat at lease two to three servings of fish a week.
Research published in today's edition of the New England Journal of Medicine by Christine Albert of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, found that people living with heart disease who consume that much fish will reduce their risk of sudden heart attack by more than half. That is because omega-3 has anti-arrhythmiac properties, meaning it helps keep the heartbeat stable.
In addition to cutting the risk of heart attack, omege-3 fatty acids are believed to reduce the risk of long-term heart disease, breast and prostate cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, depression and even the likelihood of giving birth prematurely.

Our Anchovies boast an impressive concentration of Omega3 as well.

ZINC - eat your Millionnaires Smoked Oysters
Your immune system cannot function at tip top level without zinc in your diet. This mineral helps drive many aspects of immunity, production of antibodies and white blood cell activity. It also stimulates an enzyme critical to the functioning of retinal cells (eyes). It may also help reverse deterioration of these immune functions especially after sixty when the deterioration process tends to speed up. The greatest source of zinc is oysters, and, the smoked form gives you the best source.
So, eat your Millionnaires Smoked Oysters. While raw oysters have their good points!. our smoked oysters are pretty good (and beneficial) too!
Zinc has been shown in studies in the U.S. to sharpen teenagers’ mental skills
by making them more attentive and responsive in school. Zinc also is essential
in developing eye-hand coordination and reasoning. In adults, it helps memory
retention and muscular strength.
LYCOPENE - Millionnaires Small Petits Sardines in Tomato
Tomatoes have been hailed as protective against prostate cancer and scientists
believe the lycopene that makes tomatoes red may be responsible. Some
scientists have found lycopene supplements contribute little to this prevention.
Again natural is better.
